The New Nexus 5 with Android Kitkat

Now everyone is looking for one device I am sure, you know what I am talking about, nothing but the new Nexus 5. Nexus 5 is the first device to run on the latest version of Android Kit Kat OS. The device is packed with a lots of absolutely awesome features. If you compare the market price, where the high end phones have already crossed the 50K threshold it’s merely bargain to have such a fabulous device below 35K. Such low cost along with fantastic design and Android Kit Kat makes it the most coveted device. Though lots of Android run flagship product have already lunched this year,   it seems Nexus 5 outweighs all of them. Let’s look at it in details.



This time Google has assigned the designing work of Nexus 5 to LG. The device got a neat and minimalistic look but doesn’t look much elegant. Rather having a premium look Google prefer to give you a powerhouse of impressive features with much simpler and decent look. Externally from a distance it looks like any other usual Android device, but when you operate it at close proximity you will be thrilled. For this price range Nexus 5 is simply the best out there.

The device is entirely build with polycarbonate plastic which is not a glossy one hence gives dull finish to it. On the flip side it makes the device lighter. The dimension being 5.43×2.72×0.34 inches (137.84×69.17×8.59mm) weighs 4.59 oz (130g). The device sit comfortable in the palm doesn’t fell outsize.


The sides of the device houses all the physical keys like volume rocker, power lock along with 3.5mm audio jacket, noise cancelling microphone, standard mic, speaker grill, microUSB port and microSIM slot. Don’t be confused with the two sets of grills as speaker along the bottom edge actually one for speaker another for mic. In addition to that the volume rocker and power lock key are placed in such a position where we go often and find at a glance. They say our finger are default to that position often operating.

There present a LED notification light below the display, which pulsate different colors for different notification. Isn’t it great prioritizing the notification. In addition to that at the top edge an earpiece light is present along with proximity sensors. Also there exist a 1.3 MP front facing camera at the top edge.

Nexus 5 is engraved on the back side of the device at the center, as it’s a part of branding. At backside top the device houses a 8MP camera along with a LED flash.



Nexus 5 comes with a 5 inch 1080×1920 IPS LCD display like various other flagship products recently lunched. It comes with a good 445ppi pixel density which clearly shows every minute details. The brightness is pretty good for outdoor visibility. Moreover it is not packed with some out of the box features, for high end smartphones these are common. The colour balance is decent with slightly dominating yellow.


Not only Google has made the side bezel thinner but also screen is increased by 0.3” compared to its predecessor Nexus 4. The display has embedded a new in-cell touch technology, which made the touch panel even closer to the surface giving a floating appearance. That is fun to experience. However there are a lot of areas where improvement can be done, but looking at its price the features packed under its hood is much more than any other device out there. Simply Its value for your hard earned money.


It is packed with 8MP rear camera nothing more fascinating as its common in various other camera phones. It offers optical Image stabilization comes with a BSI sensor of size 1/3.4” its not that powerful compared to the 1/3” used in many other device out there. But you will be astonished by the camera clarity as compared to these numbers, its not only good but really impressive. It can compete with some top shooters out there. They have shown pixel count is not the only thing that matter but the pixel along with some good technology dose the work very well.

There is a 1.3MP front facing camera takes average quality pictures. With enough amount of light the snapper takes pictures which is just OK where as in dim light the quality drop significantly. Also the camera has not very wide viewing angle that is to compromise with.

The new Nexus 5 comes with a new improved camera app HDR+. According to Google the HDR+ capable of taking multiple shorts and use a special algorithm to stitch them to give the best shot. The algorithm is capable of setting better dynamic range resulting more balanced exposure. Ultimately gave the best possible shot in that atmospheric condition.

At the same time the camera records 1080p full HD video with awesome quality. You will definitely like the sharp minute details, much balanced colour combination and crystal clear audio recording. However in low light condition the quality drop drastically as well as the frame rate drops to 19 fps.


Interface and functionality:

Nexus 5 is coming straight out of the gate with vanilla Android 4.4 Kit Kat the latest version of android OS. If you are a gadget lover I hope more or less you must be knowing about Kit Kat as there are a lot of noise is going around about its awesome features.

The new version of android OS is more intuitive than its predecessor. The device has very clean and elegant looking UI. Google hard done enough to provide information in much organized way than ever before. Now a days Google is not all about internet apart from being world’s number one search engine they are their trying their feet in the smart phone and tablet market. It seems they are very eager to merge the two world i.e. virtual and real world. Google helpouts describe that very well. Moreover Google’s Android Kit Kat is undabutly one of the most powerful OS.


Processor and Memory:

Nexus 5 runs on a Quad core Krait 400 processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 system chip. The device is also packed with Adreno 330 GPU along with a decent 2GB of dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM. The CPU is clocked at 2.3GHz. There is almost nothing about which you can complain. It comes with two variant 16GB or 32GB of inbuilt storage.

The above seas of features gives you almost any noticeable lag free operation. Its much more pleasure to enjoy 3D games without any hitch.


4G LTE is one new feature in Nexus 5 which was lacking in its predecessor Nexus 4 that had also disappoint many last year. You can now enjoy the high speed internet without a hitch. Browsing with crome is really fantastic as it delivers pages at lightning fast speed. You can really feel the speed. You will be thrilled by the speed as well the rich set of features of chrome.

The LTE comes with two different configuration. For North America Nexus 5 comes with a D820 model that supports nine LTE band. Outside of North America it comes with D821 model that support six LTE band.

The device comes with dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support. Among all other connectivity features Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS, NFC comes mainly.


It is powered by a decent 2300mAh of battery. You can keep going for 8-12 hour with heavy use, you need to charge constantly if you need to use for a long time. It offers talk time of 17 hours and stand by time 12.5 days. Remember its purely theoretical data.


The device is simply loaded with lots of awesome features, almost all you want. However it’s purely your decision where you want to put your hard earned money. But for sure this is one device definitely worth your money.
