Recently Sony has launched its latest flagship product Xperia Z1 to compete with it’s rival Samsung Galaxy s4. Just because of Xperia is lunched with more advance processor and using latest technology that doesn’t mean Galaxy is lagging behind. Though its half a year old phone it’s no way looking back to compete with the new ones. Choices is completely yours, take a look.
Though both the device comes with same(5”) screen size Sony Xperia Z1 is a little bulkier than that of Samsung Galaxy S4. Both the smart phone looks good but Sony Xperia Z1 is dominating from design and impressive exterior point of view. The glass slab of front and rear panel and the side aluminum frame gives the device much more minimalistic and premium look. Whereas the glossy plastic body of Galaxy S4 doesn’t look that great. Moreover both the device have some prose and corns of their own.
Among all the new square shaped aluminum power lock key in Xperia Z1 is quite unusual in these kind of high end smartphones. It neither looks ugly nor even look good. In both the phones the keys are not that great, but that’s not a big deal. However certainly you will love the dedicated key for camera shot in Xperia Z1. It makes significant difference if you take a lot of photos using your phone otherwise you may not notice it.
One more advantages of Xperia Z1 is that is water and dust proof but Samsung Galaxy doesn’t. Here is some more just check that out.
|Dimension||5.38 x 2.75 x 0.31 inches (136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm)||5.96x2.91x0.33 inches (144.4x73.9x8.5mm)|
|Weight||4.59 oz (130 g)||6.00 oz (170g)|
|Body Material||Polycarbonate||Aluminum and glass|
|Rugged||Water and dust proof|
|OS||Android (4.2.2)||Android (4.2.2)|
If you look at the specification both the device has same screen size, resolution, pixel density and features. Specification wise you will not find much more difference than Galaxy is using super AMOLED and Xperia using TFT screen technology.
Actually there is a lot of difference from color temperature point of view. The Galaxy has a very good range of viewing angles but the color is too much saturated and mostly dominating green. Whereas Xperia has less viewing angles but color is much more realistic and natural than that of Galaxy. The outdoor visibility in case of Xperia is pretty good due to the higher brightness (495 nits) compared to Galaxy S4 (288 nits).Despite of having some issue with the gamma value and the viewing angle it’s a great display, you would agree.
|Resolution||1080x1920 pixels||1080x1920 pixels|
|Pixel density||441 ppi||441 ppi|
|Color temperature||7980 kelvins(average)||7037 kelvins(good)|
|Maximum brightness||288 nits||495 nits|
|Minimum brightness||10 nits||23 nits|
|Features||Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Scratch-resistant glass||Light sensor, Proximity sensor|
A 20.7 MP camera with some exciting features being the most fascinating feature of Xperia Z1 completely outshine Galaxy S4. Galaxy’s 13MP camera with sensor size 1/3.6” is quite unimposing than that of Xperia with 20.7MP camera and 1/2.3” sensor. The focal length of Xperia Z1(27mm) allows you to cover more area in front of you than that of Galaxy S4(31mm).
Although both the device has versatile camera user interface ,Xperia is much more comfortable to use for taking snaps .If you don’t know much about photography and the parameter relating to that, then stick to the auto mode. It’s very powerful and it manipulates the parameters on it’s own to take a best picture in any condition, you don’t need to do anything.
There are few settings displayed are the LED flash, self-timer, smile shutter, preview, burst with long press, face detection, geo-tagging, shutter sound for still and self-timer, Steady Shot, and microphone for video. It provides various different mode for the manual setting. There is awesome feature called Social Live which allows you to broadcast your videos directly to your own Facebook feed.
Both the camera takes good snap shots in day light. In fact in more light Galaxy takes better one. Generally in Xperia the colors are extremely realistic and natural also provide 3x clear zoom. The picture quality of Xperia is simply the best out there compare to all other high end phones.
Both the phone record video of resolution 1920×1080 with a frame rate of 30fps. The sound clarity of Xperia video is little better than Galaxy S4. The video of Xperia is much more live and natural. Galaxy is also clear and louder but fails in low frequency area.

Interface and functionality:
Both the device is running on Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. Whereas Sony has already promised a up gradation for the Xperia Z1. Sony’s customized user interface user interface provides all core application so as Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX. Samsung has added some more cool features like S Health, Samsung Hub, Samsung Apps, S Beam and some more.
Samsung’s TouchWiz much more colourful whereas Sony’s user interface is well designed and furnished. Both have pretty nice user interface.
Processor and memory:
The Xperia is running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor which is definitely more powerful than Snapdragon 600 used in the Galaxy S4.The Xperia comes with a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz, while the Galaxy S4 comes with quad-core Krait 300 clocked at 1.9 GHz.
The Adreno 330 GPU of Xperia allows you to enjoy all graphics rich games almost lag free whereas a noticeable amount of lag exist in Galaxy S4 that use Adreno 320 GPU.
Both the device packed with 2GB of RAM. The galaxy comes in three different version 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of internal storage. Xperia is available in only 16GB variant, but don’t worry both comes with microSD slot.
|Processor||Quad core, 1900MHz,Krait 300||Quad core, 2200MHz,Krait 400|

Connectivity and technology:
Both the device supports all Wi-Fi protocols, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS,DLNA as well as NFC. Galaxy S4 features HML and many more in addition to these above ones.
Xperia Z1 comes with LTE cat4 whereas Galaxy comes with LTE cat3. Also both the device comes with HSPA+ providing a download speed of 42.2Mbps and 5.76 Mbps upload speed(these are all theoretical speed).

Due to it’s bulkier size Xperia is powered by a 3000mAh battery whereas Galaxy S4 comes with 2600mAh for the same 5” screen. Galaxy is reportedly giving little more 3G talk time whereas Xperia is rated providing more 3G stand-by time that’s all not much difference is there.
|Talk time||13.83 hours|
|Stand-by time||36.7days(880 hours)|
|Talk time(3G)||17.00 hours||15.00 hours|
|Stand-by time(3G)||15.4 days(370 hours)||35.4 days(850 hours)|
|Stand-by time(4G)||13.3 days(320hours)||31.7days(760 hours)|
Though both the device has their own pros and cons. Definitely Xperia outshines Galaxy S4 from a lot of aspect. But the difference is not such huge that you can’t think of Galaxy, it’s not like that. Xperia has the advantage of packed with latest and power full chipset and GPU which is a result of coming late to the market. That’s natural. Still its solely depends you which one to choose.
