Sony have done some really intelligent work to be in the competition of premium smartphone market. The lunching of Xperia Z1 that is the upgraded version of Xperiaz Z in less than one year revels how much they want to be in the competition. It’s time to take a look in details.
The Sony Xperia Z1 has improved a lot specially design department than its earlier Xperia Z. Having dimension 5.96×2.91×0.33 inches (144.4×73.9×8.5mm) it weighs 6.00 oz (170g).Though it is a bit heavier than it’s predecessor but you would agree it is ok with the improved hardware.
The front and rear panel is still made up off glass whereas the side rubbery material is replaced by metal, that gives the device much more minimalistic and premium look. It comes in three color variant black/white/purple.
All the keys are placed on the left/right side whereas the 3.5 audio jack and speakers are placed on the top and bottom respectively. Among all the new square shaped aluminum power lock key is quite unusual in these kind of high end smartphones, that not even look fair. Forget that is not a matter of concern. The phone is water and dust proof. Moreover I can say it’s a good option who is looking for high range budget.
It comes with a 5” large Full HD screen having resolution 1080×1920 pixel and pixel density 440ppi. The display is TFT one, certainly it’s not the best but looks nice. The high resolution and pixel density gives you a sharp view of text and images.
The display comes with the Triluminos technology that was first supported in Xperia Z Ultra, which create more backlighting for the display using quantum dots( extremely small particles emits light at a particular wavelength). It supports X-Reality image enhancement technology, that improves the quality of images and videos taken on the phone. It adjust finely some parameters like contrast, sharpness, color and many more to take a impressive snap.
Although blue is little bit dominating, its color reproduction is close to accurate with a acceptable amount of color error. The color temperature is very close to natural color temperature.
Here the problem comes with the viewing angle, which are not much wide. The washed out significantly if you don’t look directly into it. For direct viewing it’s just awesome. Brightness is high enough that provides fine outdoor viewing.
Having a 20.7MP camera is the most fascinating feature of the device. Not only the big number( large pixel size) but also the features it is providing is enough to excite you. It is packed with 1/2.3” Exmor RS image sensor, G Lens with 27mm wide angle and f/2.0 aperture, and BIONZ image processing engine. By integrating these superior imaging features it reaches up to the mark.
If you don’t know much about photography and the parameter relating to that, then stick to the auto mode. It is very powerful and it manipulates the parameters on it’s own to take a best picture in any condition, you don’t need to do anything. There are few settings displayed are the LED flash, self-timer, smile shutter, preview, burst with long press, face detection, geo-tagging, shutter sound for still and self-timer, Steady Shot, and microphone for video. It provides various different mode for the manual setting.
In Timeshift burst mode you can take 60 quick shots and select best out of that. It support Sweep Panorama that allows you to take Panorama shots. The AR effect is much more fun to use that put visual character into your photos. You can download more apps from Sony’s app store.
The picture quality is simply the best out there compare to all other high end phones. The photos taken indoors is little better than outdoors in lowlight condition. The LED flash is enough to illuminate the small screen. More over the quality of photo is awesome. It records 1080p video but lacks 60fps, that would be much pretty.
Processor and memory:
It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Also packed with adreno 330 GPU,2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage. Sony is giving you microSD slot for further more expansion of storage. You can run graphics rich games with no such visible lag. That is grate.
It comes with Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. But no need to be worry as Sony has already promised a up gradation for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra it is obvious to assume that Xperia Z1 will also up graded to Android v4.3.
It houses all the features for Wi-Fi connectivity. Bluetooth v4.0, NFC and DLNA. Also supports GPS, A-GPS, Glonass.
It works in almost all GSM, UMTS,LTE bands. For it depends on their carrier at what they are operating. The various data speed here: LTE Cat4 Downlink 150 Mbit/s, LTE Cat3/4 Uplink 50 Mbit/s, HSDPA+ (4G) 42.2 Mbit/s, HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s, UMTS, EDGE,GPRS.
Powered by a 3000mAh battery which provides you about 15 hours of 3G talk-time, and the decent 35 days of 3G stand-by time. The stand by time is a bit lower for 4G users.
